‘Hell on Wheels’ season 5, episode 9 video: Cullen’s next move

The fifth season of “Hell on Wheels” picked back up on this past Saturday with what may be one of the strongest episodes that the show has handed us to date. There was a showdown like no other between Cullen Bohannon and The Swede, and we finally saw the latter lose his life. What was especially powerful about this was that it did not happen at Cullen’s own hand. It was a nice change for the show, and a way to show his growth as a character.

Moving forward, there is still so much work to be done, and the new sneak peek below is really symbolic of the next phase of the journey as Bohannon makes his way back to the railroad. However, this is going to be a little more difficult than just showing up at Truckee or Laramie and just pressing on, since there are Native American people who are ready to hunt him and his family down. This is all about the escape; it’s not the most in-depth preview that the show has ever given us, but simultaneously it does do a rather good job at highlighting some of the danger that could be coming up this weekend.

In the end, we see this episode (entitled “Return to the Garden”) almost as an important transitional hour. It is a way for the series to go from the events of Cullen vs. The Swede back to the other characters and the construction of the railroad. We’ll just have to wait and see if it is anywhere near as powerful as the premiere.
