‘Pretty Little Liars’ season 7 debate: Should Emily’s story end with Alison, Paige, or someone else?

Mrs. Carter: Where will we see Emily’s story end on “Pretty Little Liars“?

When you think about some other characters on the Freeform drama, it feels like their romantic futures are relatively set in stone in terms of them having a “OTP” (a.k.a. one true pairing) that most people root for. With Aria it’s Ezra, with Hanna it’s Caleb, and with Spencer it’s Toby. Maybe there are many who have come around to the idea of Spencer and Caleb, but we’d be shocked if the show ends with that.

As for one Emily Fields, it’s been a little bit up in the air. Maya died several seasons ago, and it’s now been some time since Paige has been a part of her life. While there have been fans of a potential Alisan romance, it’s never really come to pass in a permanent way, and she’s now married … even if it is to a guy in Dr. Rollins who is terrible, and the relationship surely won’t last.

So which way should the writers go? When it comes to Paige (we know that Lindsey Shaw is returning later in season 7), you’ve got someone who has a history with Emily already, and we know that there was love there. Maybe the five-plus years have given them a chance to reassess things. In some ways, it’s the safer option as opposed to Alisan, which is the riskier option that is more exciting in some ways, but also more unpredictable. We’re not even sure what the circumstances would be to get them together.
