‘Bachelor in Paradise 3’ spotlight: Is there hope at all for Chad Johnson redemption story?

Chad -Chad Johnson was basically everywhere through the first four episodes of “The Bachelorette” this past season, and through that, there was one thing that we learned more than anything else: He’s abrasive, and we’re fairly confident that he likes being abrasive. He commands the room, says controversial things, and tries to be a bull in a china shop.

With all of this in mind, how this guy is going to function on “Bachelor in Paradise” is a huge mystery at present. He probably won’t make friends, and there will be many guys there who straight-up hate him right away because of JoJo Fletcher’s season. With this in mind, we sort of wonder if he will have a Chris Bukowksi sort of run where he’ll show up and almost nothing will be going on for him.

Show experience – Hey, he lasted four weeks on JoJo’s season! That’s longer than we thought he would. However, he went down in spectacular flames, threatening people physically, getting into it with Evan Bass, and openly mocking Jordan Rodgers’ playing career to his face. Eventually, he admitted to making threats to JoJo, and she sent him home on a two-on-one date, one that apparently is going to lead to a heated confrontation on the next episode.

Romance potential – Low. Maybe there will be a woman or two slightly interested in Chad in a physical sense, but many of the other guys may throw up so many other red flags that they decide that he’s not worth the trouble. Chad’s not really someone they need to date on this show unless they’re trying to just stick around. We suppose it’s possible he turns it around somewhat (JJ did!), but it feels unlikely.

Drama potential – In the stratosphere. Clearly, production wants this guy mocking and trolling people to such an extent that they are okay having someone on their show who has openly threatened violence against other people. The only reason they’re putting up with all of this is because of their feeling that Chad antics = great TV.
