Teen Choice Awards 2016: Priyanka Chopra, Katherine McNamara, Tom Ellis fight for Breakout Star
Breakout Star is one of those categories that we wish almost every awards show out there had, and we say this as someone who does routinely give the Teen Choice Awards a pretty darn hard time for some of the categories they come up with that really just seem to be for the sake of getting as many people as possible to turn up to the show.
Below, you’re got both the nominees for Choice TV: Breakout Star, and to go along with that, our take on the field, who will win, and also who should.
The nominees
Priyanka Chopra, “Quantico”
Matthew Daddario, “Shadowhunters: The Mortal Instruments”
Tom Ellis, “Lucifer”
Emma Ishta, “Stitchers”
Katherine McNamara, “Shadowhunters: The Mortal Instruments”
Cam Newton, “All In With Cam Newton”
Who will win – These nominees really confirm the love affair that the Teen Choice community has with Freeform as a network, and also apparently Cam Newton. What in the world is he doing there? We don’t really consider the reigning NFL MVP to be a Breakout Star, even if he is new to the TV world. We’re going to say McNamara wins just because Freeform shows tend to do very well here, but you’d be silly to forget about Priyanka.
Who should win – Personally, we think Chopra is far and away the most deserving thanks to the amount of work she put in on her show; not only that, but can you really imagine “Quantico” working without her on it? The tone and the overall feel would be entirely different, and that thought is far too depressing for us to spend much more time thinking about it. There are other good candidates on here (we do really love Tom Ellis), but Priyanka’s got a commanding lead in our mind.
Now, we’re turning it over to you to share your thoughts! Vote as often as you want.
