‘Person of Interest’ season 5: Show boss teases ’emotional’ series finale
In many ways, “Person of Interest” has been a very calculated, at-times mathematical show. Therefore, we’re not entirely sure that “emotional” would ever be the word you would want to use to describe it in advance; yet, at the same time, it feels oddly perfect. This is a show that has managed to sneak in heartfelt moments, at times covertly, into some of its stories. Then, you have moments like what happened with Root that you just bawl your eyes out watching because it is so unbelievably sad and devastating.
While at the ATX Festival this weekend, executive producer Jonathan Nolan spoke out about the episode at a panel, specifically saying the following (per Entertainment Weekly) about how they wanted to approach the last episode, and what they got out of it:
“…[The finale] was a chance for us to revisit some of those relationships that we haven’t gotten a chance to get to before, and there’s an awful lot compressed into it, but I think it’s a more emotional finale than I anticipated we would have in some ways.”
We definitely feel like there is a lot of emotional storytelling that could be put into this episode just when you think about the amount of time that Reese, Finch, Shaw, and Fusco have put into trying to ensure the Machine effectively defeated Samaritan once and for all; there’s a chance to be heroes here, but at the same time, there is also potential that some other characters could lose their lives by the time the dust settles.
