‘Mistresses’ season 4 debate: Are Karen, Robert a match?

Mistresses -Mrs. Carter: Do we have a great new love interest on “Mistresses” in Robert?

Through what we’ve seen so far this season, this character has been somewhat of a hoot. He’s odd, but at the same time he seems to be relatively good as a “manny,” and also supportive of Karen … at times. He’s also been distracting and either really terrible at reading signals … or terrible at knowing when he should act on them. Jerry O’Connell ultimately is a fun addition, even if we don’t know for sure how long he is going to be around. (We do know that on the next new episode airing a week from Monday, the lines between a personal and professional relationship with Karen could start to blur.)

Should these two become an item by the end of the season? Let’s look at it from two different perspectives.

The advantages of a pairing – For one, it’s fun! Karen already knows that he cares for her child, and that goes a long way. He’s someone who could push her in some ways, offer advice, and communicate with her in ways that few others do. She’s an author now, and given that he is an aspiring actor, maybe the two can use their creative pursuits to inspire one another. If there’s passion at the center of a relationship, isn’t there always a chance to make something work?

The disadvantages – Well, for one, it’s gonna get messy to get involved with your nanny. Maybe it’s good material for a future book, but it’s easy to see things becoming a sinking ship if the relationship takes a turn for the worse. Also, Robert’s still new! How much do we really know about him? It’s hard to get aboard a relationship completely with a guy who may just be really good at putting on a front. We ultimately feel like this is going to take some time to sort out.
