Rob Lowe subject of latest Comedy Central Roast
We’ve seen various versions of Rob Lowe thanks to a certain DirecTV ad … so why not ad “Roasted Rob Lowe” to the mix?
Today, it was announced that TV icon, whose recent credits include “The Grinder” and “Parks and Recreation,” will be the target of the latest Comedy Central Roast airing later this year. No specific date has been announced yet, but we do have the following statement from Lowe about the “honor”:
“What a thrill to once again be following in Justin Bieber’s footsteps … I look forward to a night of hilarious jokes recycled from the James Franco Roast. I would like to express my gratitude to the members of my family who have passed away and therefore will not have to endure what promises to be a very special evening.”
We’re going to hopefully get a really great dais of performers surrounding Lowe on the Roast, and while we understand that some recent names including Bieber and Charlie Sheen are perhaps more notable, we’re actually rather happy that Comedy Central is going more in the “TV icon” direction for this more so than someone just well-known for tabloid headlines. Some of our favorite Roasts have been of people like Roseanne or James Franco, who are certainly quirky but are roasted mostly out of love and admiration.
Ultimately, we wish that Comedy Central did these roasts a little more often, since it seems to be around a year to a year and a half between each one. They’re always ratings gold, and funnier than 95% of TV that is out there at the moment.
