‘Chicago PD’ spin-off ‘Chicago Justice’ officially names showrunner
While we’ve known for a little while now that the “Chicago PD” spin-off “Chicago Justice” was going to have a chance to air on NBC at midseason, things have been a little bit quiet … until now.
According to a report from Deadline, Michael S. Chernuchin has been tapped to showrun the new show, which is going to premiere at some point in the new year. Chernuchin is certainly someone familiar with the genre; not only that, but he is familiar with working on Dick Wolf’s other major franchise in “Law & Order.” He even was a showrunner for it at one point.
Ultimately, what we are getting from this report mostly is that with this “Chicago” franchise, Wolf wants to ensure that there is a great deal of consistency here. He wants people to go into “Chicago Justice” knowing more or less what they are going to get, that way there are no early stumbles. It’s probably smart, since we don’t know how four iterations of this franchise are really going to exist at the same time. It’s definitely something that will be fairly interesting to see whenever the show comes on the air.
If you missed the backdoor pilot of “Chicago Justice” that aired during “Chicago PD,” the cast is going to include Philip Winchester, Carl Weathers, Joelle Carter, and a few other familiar faces. Even though “The Good Wife” is going to still exist as a CBS All Access spin-off, this show may help to make up for its exit on network TV for fans looking for a good legal drama.
