Cable ratings: ‘Devious Maids,’ ‘UnREAL’ premieres down; ‘Rizzoli & Isles’ starts off strong
Whenever you have a show that gets a ton of critical acclaim, the hope obviously is that you find a way to get a lot of people watching you. However, what we have today is further proof that getting said good reviews does not always translate into much of anything when it comes to ratings.
“UnREAL” – Despite all of the hype and the understandable great reviews, season 2 managed just a 0.2 rating and around 500,000 viewers overall. This ties the show’s lowest-ever demo rating, and sets a new low when it comes to total viewers. It has already been renewed for a third season, so at least some of you diehard “Everlasting” fans have little to worry about when it comes to its long-term viability.
“Devious Maids” – For the start of season 4, this Lifetime series managed to score 1.1 million viewers and a 0.3 grade, which are both some pretty substantial drops in their own way from the start of season 3. What’s happening here is hard to gauge, since it’s not like this was the first time the show aired during “The Bachelorette.” It’s a little too early to determine its renewal odds.
“Rizzoli & Isles” – Maybe buoyed in part by a crazy cliffhanger or this being the final season of the show, the TNT drama brought in a 0.6 and 0.5 rating for its first two episodes, and averaged close to 3.8 million viewers between the two. There’s obviously no future to look forward to beyond this year for Jane and company, but hey, at least we’re ending on a high here!
We’re going to be giving some more updates throughout the summer on these shows, so be on the lookout for them! This is especially true for “Devious Maids” given that there is a significant reason to worry about whether or not it’ll be back.
