‘Rizzoli & Isles’ season 7, episode 1 review: Who was shot?
At the end of the sixth season of “Rizzoli & Isles,” the TNT series gave us what was in many ways the cliffhanger of all cliffhangers. We saw someone pull the trigger at the tail end of the wedding, and with that, had us wondering whether or not we were going to start things off this season with a funeral.
Luckily, that did not happen, as we ended up seeing Nina (who was shot) eventually emerge from the rubble and turn out to be okay at the end. She was even back to work remarkably quickly! As happy as we were about this, though, there was still one other reality that we did have to confront over the course of the hour: The notion that Alice Sands is still out there, and being incredibly slippery at the same time.
If there is one thing you can definitely say about this Alice character, it is this: She’s remarkably slippery, and has a knack for using her charisma to get what she wants, included protected to the point where people will lie for her. Jane tried to use Alice’s own obsession about her in a way that would expose her, and that didn’t work. In going to the media, all Jane managed to get was reprimanded instead.
Through part 1, there were some scary moments for Maura and others, but we’re certainly also fine with saying that there were some happy ones to go along with it. By the end of the premiere we realized that Alice was a particularly tricky foe more than ever, but at the same time we had reminders of the resilience of Jane, Nina, and the rest of the team. This was “Rizzoli & Isles” through and through, and it effectively set up the second hour, which was thankfully airing right after.
