‘Supergirl’ season 2 will actually cast Clark Kent / Superman

Kara -

For the first time, Clark Kent / Superman will be more than a passing glance on “Supergirl.” It has been confirmed now that the Man of Steel (and one of the most iconic characters in all of comic-book history) will be appearing on the second season of the CW series, which could be a super-smart move in its own right to attract new viewers to the show.

In a statement, executive producer Andrew Kreisberg had the following to say about the move:

“Greg [Berlanti], Ali [Adler] and I are beyond thrilled to welcome Clark Kent and his slightly-more-famous alter ego to the world of Supergirl. Superman will be appearing in the first two episodes of the new season and we cannot wait to see who next dons the red cape!”

For much of last season, the philosophy seemed to be that giving Superman a large role would take away from Kara’s story, given that she is more of the focus here. However, we’re glad to see a little bit of a different philosophy this time around. We already know Kara well enough to know that she is the star, and as a result of that, we don’t think viewers are suddenly going to care more about Superman than her.

What we also really love about this move is that it could represent a change of philosophy for DC Comics, who seemed hesitant to allow the TV shows to take on characters who were huge in the feature films. If only this meant that we could see more of someone like Harley Quinn on “Arrow,” who was briefly introduced in what was effectively a cameo appearance.
