‘Outlander’ season 2, episode 9 video: Murtagh prepares for battle

Murtagh -

We’ve made no secret of our love of Murtagh on this season of “Outlander” so far. The man has proven himself fiercely loyal to Jamie and Claire, and at the same time, still finds the time here and there for shenanigans … at least in France.

Now that we are back in Scotland, it is certainly clear that Murtagh has a specific purpose once more. In the new preview below, you can see the character engaging many of the Scottish men brought together by Lord Lovat and clan MacKenzie in a rigorous training regiment. There is at least one prospective soldier who questions his methods while Jamie watches on, and from there, Murtagh awesomely makes it clear that no man receives a sword until they are absolutely ready.

Will we get the epic battle that this scene teases up? As a non-book reader, there is some excitement in not knowing precisely what is coming up the remainder of this season. However, we do have history as a guide here, and in turn, we know in theory how the Jacobite Rebellion ends. Whether or not it unfolds in this same specific way as a result of Jamie and Claire’s actions remains to be seen. They’ve just taken a new approach since their arrival in Scotland, one that is a little more afraid to ruffle up history’s feathers. As a viewer, it is certainly an approach that is going to be incredibly entertaining to watch unfold.

Rest assured that, as always, we’ll have a full review of tonight’s episode “Je Suis Prest” the moment that it concludes on Starz! Until that time, head over here to check out the full archive and receive some other news.
