‘Arrow’ season 5 spoilers: How everything connects

Oliver -

The fifth season of “Arrow” will be coming to The CW a little bit later this fall, and with that, it’s looking more and more like the series is going to do more than just tackle why Oliver Queen knows Russian; they are also going to take on an issue that first originated in the pilot.

Speaking to TVLine, executive producer Wendy Mericle certainly makes it seem as though Oliver is planning to fulfill a vow that he made to Taiana; to go along with that, we’re going to learn quite a few other answers, as well:

“It’s a very good possibility that we’ll finally find out how he got that Bratva tattoo and how he learned to speak Russian. No one can know my secret’ and he kills that guy in the pilot, we’re going to get some insight into that.”

Now, none of this does resolve a question that we’ve wondered for quite a long time in the context for the flashbacks: Will they be interesting? Will they actually matter? They have to find a way in order to connect them to what is going on the present, and the problem this season is that other than with Constantine and the overall theme of magic, there really wasn’t too much else that happened that was altogether that interesting. Sure, it was nice to see Amanda Waller again (RIP), but it’s hard to really imagine anyone out there hoping that seeing her turn up was going to be the end of the road for Oliver’s story in the flashbacks this year.
