‘Outlander’ renewed for season 3, season 4 by Starz

Claire -

We’ve been wondering for a little while now as to why in the world Starz hadn’t renewed “Outlander” yet, with one of our big theories being that maybe there was a debate over a season 3 episode count. We knew that the drama was almost a lock to come back, given its popularity and the money it brings in for the network.

What we did not consider was that Starz was looking to renew the show for two seasons at once! In a statement today, it was confirmed that the show will be back for both a third and a fourth season, which will be based on the Diana Gabaldon books Voyager and Drums of Autumn. Here’s what network head Chris Albrecht had to say:

Outlander is like nothing seen before on television. From its depiction of a truly powerful female lead character, to the devastating decimation of the Highlander way of life, to what is a rarely seen genuine and timeless love story, it is a show that not only transports the viewer, but inspires the passion and admiration of its fans. On this 25th anniversary of the publication of the first book in the U.S., we are thrilled and honored to be able to continue the story that began with author Diana Gabaldon, and is brought to life by the incredibly talented Ronald D. Moore. There are no better storytellers for Outlander than this team, both in front and behind the camera.”

There is not really any word yet on either episode count or premiere dates for the new seasons, but for now, knowing they are on the way is all we need to know to be happy. Ratings have been fairly steady for most of season 2 in the live+same day measures; we don’t have full data for other measures as of yet.

We’ll have more news on the next episode soon; stay tuned! Also, sign up over here to secure some other scoop on all we cover via our official CarterMatt Newsletter. (Photo: Starz.)
