MTV’s ‘Scream’ season 2 premiere reaction: About that death…
The second season of “Scream” certainly chose to premiere in a huge way, and as a whole, we imagine that there are quite a few people out there right now who probably have their hair standing on end. (Is this why MTV is choosing to air this show late at night, as potential nightmare fuel?)
Anyhow, the premiere brought us dreams, Audrey and Piper sharing a connection, and above all else a new victim who we actually knew rather well in Jake. Why do this to him, over any other character on the show? One of the new showrunners for the season is Richard Register, and he had the following message to pass along via TVLine:
“There are a lot of things at play. It needed to be someone that was utterly beloved so that you really know it could happen to anyone. It’s just better to build characters, so that when you see the light go out in their eyes, you feel like they’re really gone. Death matters more when that happens.”
If there is one thing that we can say to Jake fans out there to make them feel a little better, fellow showrunner Michael Gans made it abundantly clear that this is not the last time that you’re going to be seeing Jake on the show in some form. Given that this is “Scream” and supernatural elements tend to run amok, who knows what sort of crazy plan the writers have moving forward? It’s something we will certainly be happy to have some further insight on soon.
