‘Empire’ season 3 spoilers: Will Freda return?
For those of you wondering whether or not Freda is going to make her presence felt in a big way on “Empire” season 3 after proving to be quite a catalyst in season 2, we now have some sort of official answer for you: Count on it.
Speaking on this particular subject in a new interview with TVLine, showrunner Ilene Chaiken made it clear that this character has a significant role to play in the aftermath of shooting Jamal in an attack that was really aimed at Lucious; she will have a shot at redemption, but it’s not going to be an easy one. Jamal may be a forgiving type, but there is a difference between forgiving and forgetting … especially when you were fired at in the way that the character was:
“Freda will be in Season 3 … She’s part of our story. It’s not over. Jamal understand she’s a victim, but he still has to deal with the fact that she shot him. It was a hugely traumatizing event that she perpetrated on him. But he believes in her and in the mission of ending the cycle. So he’s going to have to do something about it.”
Through this season, we hope that there is some sort of understanding here, especially since Jamal has made stopping violence a mission that is concurrent with his musical journey. The one reason that we feel for him here is that it really doesn’t feel too likely that he’s going to be completely successful in what he aims to do. Just remember what sort of show this is, and it’s not as exciting unless some crazy stuff is going down.
