‘Arrow’ season 5 spoilers: Will there be an expanded Team Arrow moving forward?

Oliver -

At one point on “Arrow” season 4, it was pretty clear that the famed Arrow-Cave, if you will, was becoming a crowded place. You had in there Oliver, Felicity, Diggle, Thea, Laurel, and sometimes Curtis Holt. Roy Harper even stopped by for a visit, and there are other characters in Donna Smoak in Quentin Lance who are familiar with its existence and visit from time to time. Now, imagine what it’d be like if people like Sara Lance and Ray Palmer were also still around.

Is it time for the show to simplify a little bit? We’d say so, mostly because the show is entitled “Arrow” and not “The Green Arrow and All His Friends.” We would rather keep things small before expanding outward again, and maybe give some other characters stuff to do. Based on where we are going into season 5, the writers of this show may agree. Diggle has reenlisted in the military, Thea is off trying to figure herself out, Laurel is dead, and who knows what Quentin is going to be up to next?

Unless season 5 takes a huge time jump and everyone is back, we imagine it’ll start with just Oliver and Felicity holding the fort down. Could that change, and could some new characters populate the world? It’s possible, but Stephen Amell made it clear to Entertainment Weekly that even he is somewhat in the dark about the future of the story for now:

“There’s always possibly going be more new members of Team Arrow, but I don’t know yet … I know obviously Echo Kellum is joining us as a series regular, so we’ll see if he can ingratiate himself into the team.”

Our one hope is that Curtis eventually becomes more of Mr. Terrific in the field, since we feel like Felicity handles the hacking side of things just fine. We don’t know how many more people need to be filling that specific role.
