‘Ink Master’ season 7 finale ratings: How does Anthony Michaels’ win stack up?
We don’t typically keep close track of “Ink Master” ratings throughout the season, mostly because it’s not always something that really matters too much over the course of the year. This show has already been renewed for two more years, so there’s not exactly much of a reason to be concerned about the show getting canceled in the near future.
Yet, we’re curious to see how the ratings for this show stack up compared to past ones, and to really determine whether or not there was viewer enthusiasm surrounding this season with so many returning artists.
As a whole, last night’s 90-minute finale, which crowned first-time competitor Anthony Michaels as the winner of season 7, ended up drawing a 0.6 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 1.16 million viewers (per TVbythenumbers.) For a cable series, that’s a decent performance, though we do need to point out that it is lower in the demo than either of the three finales that came before it. Last season in particular drew a 0.8 rating in the demo, and around 1.59 million viewers.
So why the drop? More than anything, we attribute it to the competition last night. The show was airing largely against both “The Voice” and “Dancing with the Stars,” which both saw low-rated episodes themselves compared to past seasons. We also would say that this further proves that returning players on a reality show, while they may invigorate your base, don’t often bring in new viewers. That typically comes with some sort of innovation with the show itself.
