‘Chicago PD’ season 3 finale spoilers: Show boss on painful story for Voight, Justin’s return

Who’s down for a Voight-centered story in the “Chicago PD” season 3 finale? This is hopefully going to be an exciting hour, and we certainly know that it will be an emotional one. The producers are not just going to trot out an appearance by the character’s son Justin for no apparent reason. The relationship between the two of them has always been complicated, and it will probably be that way even more so during this episode.

For those of you looking for a good explanation as to what is going to happen through this story, and how Voight reverts back to vigilante form perhaps more so than we’ve seen from him in some time, just take a look at what executive producer Matt Olmstead had to say to Entertainment Weekly:

“Voight’s son has always been a bit of a screw-up. When we last saw Justin (Josh Segarra), he had a wife, a kid, and looks like he’s on the right path. We’ve teased that Justin has come back to Chicago and Voight finds out without Justin having let Voight know. In the finale, Justin gets shot and is clinging by a thread through the episode.

“What it does is activate Voight into an old Voight, and then some, that we haven’t seen for a long time, hellbent on finding out who shot his son. Voight is completely off the leash looking for who did it. The reverberations through the squad in terms of the rest of the people he works with who answer to him, in terms of being sympathetic to what he’s going through, but also being a little wary because is he going to go too far? What does that mean for them? What does that mean for Voight? Voight could care less about what the ramifications are going to be.”

Olmstead does make it clear that there is going to be a cliffhanger ending to the hour, and it will involve Lindsay, Voight, and also the man responsible for shooting Justin. There are a few ways that we can imagine this going, and to hell in a handbasket is just one of them.
