Yes, it’s true: Even though tonight marks the season finale for one “Dancing with the Stars,” we’re more than fine to be spending a moment or two right now talking about what could be coming up next.
Let’s start with the obvious question of when the show is coming back, since it’s fairly easy to have an answer to that: September. It’s when the show always premieres. ABC’s not going to move it, since even with lower ratings it’s a consistent performer on their lineup. This is an era where it’s harder and harder to get people to watch scripted TV live, especially on network TV. Reality competitions, or at least established ones, are a staple.
Now, let’s take a look at the next order of business: Looking at when the cast will be announced. Typically, it is a few weeks before a new season premieres, so that is something to mark on your calendar and keep track of for a little while. It’s far too early to figure out who they are going to pick, since sometimes these additions really are last-minute. Just look at how quickly Alek Skarlatos was added to the cast last season, since he didn’t become headline news until shortly before the reveal.
Still, you can probably pencil in a few archetype contestants that we’ve seen on the show time and time again, whether it be a star athlete, someone with a lot of experience on TV, or a politician or a controversial figure. This mixture always tends to get people talking, so why change it?
