‘Ink Master’ season 7 finale: Sausage, Matti Hixson face off in new new tattoo battle
We’re going to have a full review of tonight’s “Ink Master” finale a little bit later, but for now, we’re going to go ahead and say that one of our favorite twists of the entire series to date (or if nothing else, the live finales we’ve been seeing on the show the past few seasons) has to be an epic showdown between Sausage and Matti Hixson. Basically, the two artists decided to square off in a tattoo battle where the loser has to get a tattoo from the other one.
The funny thing about this “battle” is that throughout the first twenty or so minutes of the show, we saw host Dave Navarro go back and forth with both guys. It actually seemed like Sausage was done with his tattoo the whole time, while Matti continued to work on his.
At about 42 minutes into the finale, we finally had the showdown between the two artists. We do think that both of them did a really awesome job with these, but if we were Matti, we would’ve protested the audience in the studio being the people to decide this given that Sausage is far more popular across America. We probably liked Sausage’s tattoo a little better, but why go on about honesty and integrity in the studio? It’s a game! you do what you gotta do to win.
When the votes came in from the audience, it was pretty clear that Sausage had won and with that, Matti now has to walk around with a tattoo of Sausage’s for the rest of his life. So what did Sausage tattoo on Matti? A picture of a sausage with the hashtag #TeamSausage written inside.

First I want to say that since the first critique of the artists work, Nunez never had anything negative to say about Anthony’s tattoo’s. Anthony’s tattoos were faded, not a single one vibrant or packed with color. He needed to be coached through many tattoo’s and didn’t even know the basic rules of American Original. Christian and Cleen both turned in world class tattoo’s throughout the season. A few hiccups along the way but overall great artists. Then we hit the finale’ . . Anthony didn’t adhere to the rules, his large chest piece wasn’t even finished! The sleeve was not even a sleeve but a Half, Outside Tattoo! Each tattoo should have had him eliminated.. Matty was sent home in a previous episode for turning in an unfinished tattoo?! Cleen Rock was the consistent top tattoo-er, Christian is one of the best tattoo artists the series EVER had showcased. The show itself had a winner in mind since the first show… it was obvious and Anthony should have been sent home by the 3rd episode… Im so disgusted by this season, I personally think the show became more of a game where AMAZING FINISHED TATTOO’s took a backseat. I have been an ardent fan but will not be tuning in to a show about tattoo’s where the best get sent home and an amateur that doesn’t know how to tattoo all the genres wins the prize… it was more about the person and NOT the talent. Terrible.
