‘Awkward’ season 6: Renewal hopes and more for Ashley Rickards – MTV comedy

Tonight, “Awkward” season 5 is coming to a close on MTV, and it is doing so with a back-to-back showcase of new episodes that will hopefully give us a chance to see Jenna Hamilton’s story tie together once and for all. After all, there was some conversation at some point that tonight marks the series finale for the show, though that hasn’t been confirmed.

So is there still hope for a sixth season? The funny thing is that despite our feeling months ago, we actually do think there is a chance now that the show could come back for more. Most of the core cast seems to be interested, and we do think that there are many different things that you can do with them. One of the biggest challenges here is merely trying to figure out a way in which you can leap forward in time once more, and give us a different snapshot of some of these people’s lives. Maybe if you move forward a few years, you can get life after college … or real life?

One thing that could be especially interesting for many of these cast members is getting to play people of their own age. For example, Ashley Rickards in 24, while Beau Mirchoff is 27. Just until last year, these two were playing characters who were still in high school!

Hopefully, we will have some other insight on the show’s future at some point over the coming weeks. Even if tonight’s finale proves to be the last one for the show, at least there is a chance for the show to go out in a way that could function as a worthy conclusion.
