‘Blindspot’ finale reaction: On Jane’s true identity and more after Oscar reveal
We’re not going to even pretend that the big death at the center of the “Blindspot” finale was all that shocking, mostly because it was easy to see it coming. We knew that Oscar was someone who had to go in many ways; his story was over, and after he killed Mayfair, nobody was rooting for him to be on TV for much longer.
With that being said, it was nice to have confirmation that Jane is for sure not Taylor Shaw, and there will be a further search for answers soon on her new identity … and you may not even have to wait long for it. Speaking to TVLine in a postmortem, creator Martin Gero makes it clear when you will learn about the next big Jane identity reveal (it may be sooner than you think), and also explained how Taylor Shaw was present more so for the sake of Weller than for her:
“[Jane’s identity is] not going to be a mystery next season. You’re going to find out exactly who she is in the first episode of next season, so it’s not like we needed that for additional mystery. It had more to do with Weller’s journey this season and his belief that this was all about Taylor Shaw and the relationship that he had with his father. We thought that was an incredibly emotional roller coaster ride for them. To start with him thinking that she’s Taylor Shaw and then have it all fall apart in the end — it’s just heartbreaking for him. And for Jane, she starts next season so much more vulnerable because she’s been lied to by the bad guys, as well.”
Unfortunately, now you have to wait until the fall, and hopefully by that point Weller is a little less angry with Jane, and these two can have at least some sort of chance to start anew and move forward. It’s just to be seen if that will actually work for them.
