‘Arrow’ season 4 finale: Are we looking at ‘open-ended’ move to season 5?

Arrow -The “Arrow” season 4 finale carries with it the title of “Schism,” and one of the things that is the most intriguing about it is the notion that we could see many different people on the show in one way or another splintering off. You don’t name your finale this for a reason, so it’s possible that the actions needed to defeat Damien Darhk throw our characters in different directions … provided that they even defeat Darhk at the end of the day.

What gives a little bit more credence to this particular idea is a comment that Charlotte Ross (who plays Donna Smoak) gave on the subject of the finale in a new interview with TVLine:

“It’s very open-ended for many characters — to such a degree that you will have no idea how Season 5 will resume, and which characters may be returning or which characters will be gone for good.”

There are some characters who are easy to assume will be back for the fifth season. For example, “Arrow” would not be “Arrow” without Oliver Queen, so you have to think that he will be there in some capacity. Meanwhile, you also have to assume that Curtis Holt will be around, given that Echo Kellum was promoted to series regular for a reason.

As for the likes of Diggle, Felicity, and Thea, it’s hard to imagine the show moving forward without them right now. The major issue here is that the show already killed off Laurel Lance this season, so we just don’t see them dropping the guillotine on anyone else. The one thing to still remember here is that there are other ways beyond death that a character can leave a show, even if it is just for a time…
