Tonight, “Saturday Night Live” is saying farewell to season 41, and it is doing so with a fairly epic show featuring the return of a popular cast member in Fred Armisen. Given what we know about the show’s history with alumni, we imagine that this is going to be a fun show with multiple cameos and also nostalgic sketches.
Now that we’ve said all of this, let’s take a moment and start to look ahead towards season 42! There’s no telling just yet when it will premiere specifically, but late September / early October is a good guess. It’s also hard to figure out exactly who could host the first episode, since there could be a really strong contender who rises out of the summer movie season. We wouldn’t mind seeing someone like “Captain America: Civil War” star / former cast member Robert Downey Jr. (redemption!), or maybe the return of someone like a Louis CK who can get the new season started in the best way possible. We’d love Dwayne Johnson to do another one, since we really enjoyed his last outing. It would also be nice to get another Larry David show before the Presidential election rolls around, especially if there is no other opportunity to use his Bernie Sanders. We’d also welcome a return from Emma Stone, or a comedy legend like Steve Martin or Chris Rock.
We figure we’ll have some more time this summer to talk about our wishlist for new hosts; heck, be on the lookout for an article in the coming weeks!
As for the cast, there hasn’t been any report as of yet that anyone is leaving, so we could just see minor tweaks over the summer with one or two smaller players leaving and another person or two signing up.
