‘The Bachelorette’ spotlight: Meet Jonathan Hamilton, JoJo Fletcher’s man in a kilt
There are some contestants on JoJo Fletcher’s upcoming season of “The Bachelorette” that we imagine are going to be making an impression almost right away … but not all of them for the (ahem) right reasons. Some people are going to make an impression that may not be to their benefit, and we wonder if showing up the first night in a kilt is one of occasions in which this can happen.
Personally, we of course think that a kilt is a great celebration of your Scottish heritage, but for half-Scottish contestant Jonathan Hamilton, he has to remember that he’s on a TV show that has a very cynical and at-times cheesy worldview, especially among its fans. He really has to be prepared for that, and we’re not sure he is going into this season.
Name – Jonathan Hamilton
Age – 29
Occupation – Technical sales rep. Yep, we had no precise idea what it is he’s selling; it’s the sort of job that would never get featured on the show.
Location – Vancouver, British Columbia. He is the second Canadian we’ve profiled this season following Daniel.
Pros – He has a rich cultural background, with JoJo may appreciate being half-Persian. He also emphasizes that he has a sense of humor, since that’s something that many guys this show seem to be lacking. Ultimately, we think that’s why he decided to show up the first night in a kilt; he was self-aware enough to know that some would probably poke fun at him, but he may have felt like it was a fun way to show who he is.
Cons – His whole comment about gluten not being “a real allergy” in his bio certainly rubbed us the wrong way, mostly because of this simple fact that we know people who have Celiac Disease, and trust us that they’d rather be eating real cupcakes and other baked goods than the gluten-free kind that tastes often like cardboard.
Most likely to… Be asked predictable questions about what’s under the kilt (ugh) by people on the season.
Final assessment – We don’t see Jonathan as the winner; heck, we don’t even see him making it past week 3. We don’t think that the kilt is really a detriment in the short-term, but we wonder if he has the personality to mesh with JoJo in the long-term.

Jonathan is most likely to be a victim of racist remarks about Asians made by Chad and/or Robby in which he gets into physical fights with one or both of the guys.
