‘Call the Midwife’ season 5, episode 8 (finale) spoilers: Tragedy rocks Poplar; Trixie roots for Tom and Barbara

Call the Midwife -

The fifth season of “Call the Midwife” is going to be coming to a close on PBS Sunday night, and we can go ahead and guarantee for you that this is going to be an especially emotional affair to watch. By the end of the episode a character in Poplar will be in dire straits (if not worse), and Dr. Turner is going to have to in some ways realize that his manner of treatment has been proven wrong and he has to bear some responsibility for recent actions.

You can get a sense of some of this in the new promo below, and also a nice little moment in which Trixie acknowledges that while Tom and Barbara are now together, she’s not going to hold on towards any jealousy or ill will. Instead, she feels like it’s so much easier to be happy for the two than try and be nasty or feel bitter in any way.

The synopsis below offers up a few more details about the story ahead:

“Nonnatus House is thrown into disarray by a tragedy even closer to home. Although Sister Evangelina is back at work it’s clear that her recent stroke has affected her badly, and that her health problems are not over. Elsewhere, Poplar matriarch Tessie is forced to accept that her grandchild has been conceived out of wedlock, but there’s joy all round when the baby is born at the couple’s wedding.”

Just in case you are wondering when the new season is going to premiere, the simple answer to that seems to be January 2017 in the UK or a few months later in America. You’re going to get a chance to see a Christmas Special before that, and this time around, we know that Helen George and company filmed one in South Africa.
