‘Britain’s Got Talent’ preview: Does Danny Beard find a way to surprise Simon Cowell?

On “Britain’s Got Talent,” so much of the fun typically stems from the element of surprise. You don’t entirely know what to expect from some of the acts when they come out on stage, especially when they either have a costume or an alter ego that they are playing.

Yet, Danny Beard and his amazing golden beard bring something new to the table! In the video below, you can see his rousing rendition (or at least part of it) of “Sweet Transvestite” from “The Rocky Horror Picture Show,” and it seems to blow the judges away. We agree that it’s definitely a strong performance, and something worthy of seeing again in the next round provided the opportunity is there.

In general, we feel like either the British or American show is ripe for this sort of act to do well, since you’re really talking about more than just hitting some great notes here. It’s also theater, and you have to be willing and capable to get up on stage and perform in character. It’s different than the average vocal audition, which involves someone just coming up on stage and nervously getting their way through a ballad.

Also, Danny’s clearly a pro. It’s easy to root for people who have been through a lot over the course of their careers, and are worthy of a chance like this to break it big. We’ll have more on this episode later, including a review and some discussion on what is next.
