‘Shark Tank’ video: Is Felt an app that could change the card industry?

Sharks -It’s our last “Shark Tank” preview piece before the last “Shark Tank” episode of the season, but we are fairly confident that we’ve saved one of the best, or at least most interesting, ideas for last. We’re talking here about Felt, an app that offers a unique sort of technology that could change the way the whole greeting-card industry tackles things.

Here is the fundamental idea behind it: You use the technology to create your own card design, and hand-write using a hand or a stylus your own message. The card, upon completion, is stamped and mailed to wherever you want it sent. It’s a way to create something special without the hassle of going to the store, getting a stamp, and everything in between.

Do we think it’s a good idea? Absolutely, but to us there’s still something all the more special about someone who goes through the effort to send a card the old-fashioned way. We’re not sure this, cool as it is, is an adequate replacement for that. However, if this does convince some lazy e-card shoppers to come on and use this technology to send some better cards out to people, this is still improving the world to a certain extent. At a certain point, we have to think that this is better than the alternative, and someone probably should give this business an investment to help the cause.

In the end, we do think that a Shark is going to get on board here. It’s too interesting and creative a concept for our own personal fears to stop something from happening.
