‘The X Factor’ UK: Could Simon Cowell take a pay cut?
The future of “The X Factor” and its sister show on ITV in “Britain’s Got Talent” has produced a wide array of headlines over the course of the past several weeks, and at the center of that right now is a pretty key question: What is the long-term future of these shows going to be? Singing shows are clearly on their way out in many countries, and the ratings are down versus previous seasons.
Therefore, it is looking like Simon Cowell could end up taking somewhat of a pay cut in order to get the shows signed to new deals and around in the long-term. Speaking on the subject further per the Express, the music mogul had the following to say:
“We are all in that boat, aren’t we? That’s the way life goes … It is nothing I am particularly worried about, to be honest
“I am more keen we settle the shows for the producers we hire and everyone else. We want to give everyone the reassurance that we are going to have another three years guaranteed, which is always nice news to tell the team because they have been with us a long time. Overall I am happy. I always feel we are in a fortunate position because we have two shows that have been on air for a long, long time now.”
Ultimately, Cowell gets so much money beyond just this show that we don’t imagine pay is that much of an issue for him. After all, he gets some earnings from many versions of the show all over the world. (Yet, he still only likes to buy a specific type of shirt.)
