‘Agents of SHIELD’ season 3 finale reaction: Brett Dalton on big Hive moment

Ward -Brett Dalton has had arguably one of the most interesting journeys of any actor on any TV show out there. Just remember for a moment that we’ve seen Grant Ward killed off before on “Agents of SHIELD,” and we’ve also seen him good from bad to evil.

So of course when Hive was seemingly killed courtesy of Lincoln’s sacrifice in the season 3 finale on Tuesday night, one of the questions we had immediately was whether or not that was really it … and for now, Brett Dalton is not saying one way or another. Speaking to Yahoo TV, he makes it clear that he would love to come back if the story is right, and they have yet another way to bring this character back.

Dalton was also reflective of the entire journey that he had as Hive over the past dozen or so episodes:

“I knew it wasn’t going to last forever, but it doesn’t make it any less sad … I kind of had a feeling when they called me into the office the third time — because they’ve done this twice before with the other big, significant changes for the character. But this time, I thought ‘Aw, man. There’s something different about this one.’”

We find ourselves even personally torn about this death. Given everything SHIELD did in order to finally kill Hive, it’d be doing the story a disservice if he just showed up fine in the season 4 premiere. With that said, we’d love to see Dalton back down the road. The only suggestion that we have is for the show to take its time; eventually, maybe there’ll be an organic way to reintroduce Ward to the story.
