‘Chicago Fire’ season 4 finale reaction: On that big Dawson-Casey moment

Chicago Fire -For everyone out there who loves to root for Dawson and Casey on “Chicago Fire,” we come bearing some good news in the wake of everything that has happened between the two of them over the course of the past year or two: It seems like they’re on the good road again! Casey showed up at her door, spurning politics for at least the time being to focus on the two of them.

Granted, the two do still have plenty to work through, and Dawson in particular is now working to also foster Louie. Just consider all of this a start for the time being.

In explaining further the decision to pair these two characters back together in an interview with TVLine, showrunner Matt Olmstead had the following to say:

“They’re on solid footing. We obviously had played “Will they?/Won’t they?” and “Are they?/Aren’t they?” and we didn’t want to have it become tiresome. So we wanted to put them back together. It was the subject of some fierce debate in the writers’ room in terms of, in the finale, does he respond to the little bit of catnip that the political consultant has laid out for him, or does he go back to Dawson? To have him go back and knock on the door was really heartwarming in the midst of a lot of other stuff that’s pretty heavy. They’ve been through the wringer, emotionally. It just felt like it was the right time to bring them back as a couple, firmly, because they’re really the heartbeat of the show, and also to give this storyline to Dawson, where she’s pursuing trying to care full-time for this kid.”

Now, let’s just hope that with a child involved there’s a little bit less of the ambiguity. Just leave these two together, and then we’ll have a better chance to shake out almost everything else. Plus, there are plenty of things to give them to do now that they are firmly together, and political temptations will still remain for Casey. Meanwhile, there are also of course tricky situations involving Severide, Stella, Boden, and others, but we’ll have a better chance to see where many of these stand in the fall.
