‘Agents of SHIELD’ season 3 finale review: Lincoln, Daisy, and a ‘stolen destiny’
The final battle with Hive on the “Agents of SHIELD” season 3 finale turned out to be a big one, and for a variety of different reasons. Let’s start first and foremost with a prophecy being fulfilled … just not in the way that Daisy Johnson wanted or expected.
After everything that she did under the influence of Hive, she wanted to be the one to finally pull the trigger on the plan to stop the destruction of the world … and eliminate the villain once and for all. However, Lincoln seized the opportunity, knowing his abilities, and took advantage of the chance to kill the monster once and for all. In the process, he did realize that he would be taking his own life.
In some ways, Lincoln was a predictable death. If the show was going to kill off a major character, it makes sense for it to be someone who was not around the show for the very beginning. Yet, it was beautiful and poetic to see him do this out of love for Daisy, and loyalty for those who have helped him.
This was also oddly sad to see the end of Hive, mostly because it means presumably the end of Brett Dalton, who has been outstanding throughout the series effectively playing three different characters. Yet, there was only so long he could last, since Hive flew a little too close to the sun. Daisy will have to keep searching for her redemption, and we imagine that this will not be an easy task. Yet, she’ll at least have that opportunity.
In the end, an outstanding end to the season, and one that did bring out basically a flood of emotions from start to finish. Grade: A-.
