‘Hawaii Five-0’ season 6 finale reaction: Did someone save McGarrett’s life?
By around the 45-minute mark in the second half of Friday’s “Hawaii Five-0,” one thing was fairly clear: We had a series regular in major risk. Not only that, but it took a sacrifice like no other in order to save him.
After being trapped and utterly brutalized, McGarrett was in need of help like never before. Without a liver, he was going to die. This is where Danny came to a rescue. In the closing seconds, he made the decision to give up half of his liver to save his partner’s life. It showed how far these two have come, and was a perfect culmination of a story that involved frequent squabbling between the two, even to the point where they had to go to couples’ therapy. We were never worried about Steve losing his life, so what was somewhat of a thrill is that the show still found a way to create a little bit of tension here … not to mention some touching moments.
What was especially interesting to us about this was that this episode could have functioned as a series finale, given that Kono, Grover, and some other characters took advantage of the opportunity to tell Steve how much they cared about him. The Governor even sent some well-wishes! Yet, in the midst of all of these sentimental moments, the episode still ended with the two guys squabbling with each other.
There’s also one other question to wonder moving into next season: Is Max coming back? With him going on sabbatical, it’s to be seen what the show does with the character.
