‘The Blacklist’ season 3, episode 22 review: A Tom – Scottie shocker; the Alexander Kirk showdown
Tonight’s episode of “The Blacklist” is only the first of a two-part finale event, and it is understandable if you take that as a serious signal; after all, there is still no precise resolution to the story just yet. Instead, this was a stellar introduction to the character of Alexander Kirk, a ruthless man with a complicated past with Raymond Reddington. He’s someone who Red has a case of revenge for; as a matter of fact, he has enough of a motive to work alongside Scottie Hargrave.
Over the course of this hour, we saw many things. Was there a robbery? Check. An undercover mission? Also check. Heck, we even had Reddington admit that he could care less about politics while he blackmailed a Senator. This was a guy out to do everything that he could to eventually do what he could to find peace after Liz’a death.
Is he there? We’d say not exactly just yet, given that Kirk is still out there, and while we’re making forward movement, who knows where this will lead?
Now, let’s spend a moment talking about a much sweeter moment: Tom deciding to make the Task Force the godparents of baby Agnes. That was hopefully a nice-enough moment to help compensate from being blindsided later, as he learned from Red that Susan was (seemingly) his mother. Red likes to speak in riddles, but that’s what we got from this particular conversation. Also, Tom has to keep what he knows a secret from Scottie, who apparently has no idea who he really is. Then again, this is also courtesy of some more information from Red.
In the final conversation of the night, Scottie decided to hire Tom for her team, which was largely interesting to us in how this could (at least potentially) set up the long-discussed spin-off show. This information at the end was certainly exciting; if nothing else, it keep up hooked until the very end. Grade: B+.
