‘Castle’ canceled by ABC after eight seasons, backlash over Stana Katic – Tamala Jones dismissal
Well, consider this the surprise of the day: “Castle” will not be moving forward with a ninth season.
In the week leading up to this announcement, we certainly expected the show to be back. Many of the cast members were in negotiations, and to go along with that, the show had not really lost any ratings steam in the live+7 data since the news broke that Stana Katic and Tamala Jones were going to be leaving the show, though not really of their own choice.
There was a heavy internet backlash to the departures of these two actresses, which we presumed had to be expected from ABC given the mass fan base that this show and the characters have. Yet, we would guess that the cancellation is very much a direct response to some of the reaction from fans. Why else would there have been so many talks, and then the network making this move in the end?
With this cancellation, there will be time to include an ending to Monday night’s season / now series finale that represents a proper conclusion to the show and its characters. It’s a little early to say for certain what this will be, but we’d imagine something in line with what so many fans want.
Ultimately, what this cancellation shows more than anything is that networks do listen to the internet more so than sometimes they would lead us to believe. Given what some early indications were surrounding the show, there was no reason to think that this is the direction they were going to be heading.

Cancelling “Castle” put me out of my misery! I did not want to see Becket killed – we invested too much time and emotion over SEVEN years (I don’t count the beginning of this year with the stupid plots) for her to be killed.
Whether the show is going off because of greed or interpersonal relations between he actors doesn’t matter – the audience does. My guess is that at least the main actors now have enough money put away to take their time and make good decisions about their futures.
Good luck to all and in the words of Herb Oscar Anderson (morning DJ in the NYC area 60 years ago): “It was great while it lasted”

The cast and crew of Castle can now join the casts and crews of the 12 other shows that were cancelled today on next week’s exceptionally long unemployment lines.

I wouldn’t bet on an ending to make the fans happy. I’d bet on one to make H&W happy and who knows what that will be.

Now that the series has been canceled what you see in the final episode will be the choice of TPTB. W/H will have no say in that discussion .

Fillion and Katic gave us 6 great years of the best rom-com in many decades.
Season 8 was a train wreck as TPTB made a concerted attempt to change the show. As things went along episodes got worse and worse. (Only exceeded in how show runners changed Joan of Arcadia from s1 to s2.) A season 9 that was an extension of what season 8 turned into was just a rotten idea.
Thanks to Nathan and Stana for the many great times and the wonderful DVDs I have. Good luck in your future endeavors. I’ll follow both with great expectations.

Whether the rumors about Katic and Fillion are true or not, they have great chemistry on screen. I would love to see them paired again. I’m sorry for all other cast and crew, but they are all very talented and will nit be out if work very long.

There are many gifted actors in Hollywood , finding work in this town isn’t that easy

The one thing I’m bummed mostly about is that ABC could have announced early this year when ratings were at their lowest that this was final season, that way cast and crew could’ve gone out for pilots. More opportunities readily available there.

It will be quite a while before we see any of this cast on either the small or large screen the competition in this industry is brutal .
