ABC’s ‘Scandal’ season 5 finale spoilers: Bellamy Young on Fitz – Mellie dynamic
For everyone out there who considers themselves a Gladiator, tonight’s going to be a busy one! The finale of “Scandal” is going to be coming your way before too long, and this marks an opportunity to see some of the final battles on the way to the convention. Running mates will be chosen, and at some point along the way, there are also going to be some pretty seismic twists that rock the foundation of this show.
For Mellie, the great news is that following some lengthy battles between her, Hollis Doyle, and Susan Ross, she’s now the nominee! The problem is that there’s still another phase of the battle ahead, and she also has many other stresses awaiting her … including some with her own ex-husband. In speaking further about some of the conflicts that could come up for her and Fitz to TVLine, Tony Goldwyn had the following message to pass along:
“Well, it’s never simple between Fitz and Mellie. In so much as he is no longer working against her, I think she knows better than to assume he is therefore working for her. Tony [Goldwyn] and I have a beautiful scene in the finale. They have so much love and respect between them, but at the same time, so much fury and jealousy and blame. The two of them in one room is just catalytic, so to have them on the campaign trail together is both a boon and a huge minefield.”
Translation: This is going to be delicious to watch unfold. There’ll be a few surprises, and above all else, it’s going to be fun to watch the two parties get into some blowups while also concede that they need to work together to get her into the White House. It’s the typical push-and-pall that nominees have with other members of their party, amplified mostly by the fact that these are two people who happen to have a complicated romantic past.
