‘The Big Bang Theory’ season 9 finale: Show boss on key Judd Hirsch surprise

Finale -Thursday night’s new episode of “The Big Bang Theory” is going to be the end of the season, and there are going to be a few different moving parts that, in one way or another, are in play. One of the biggest ones here is simply the arrival of Judd Hirsch as Leonard’s father, and what he is going to bring to the show.

Hirsch’s character is going to arrive in part because of a marriage celebration event that is taking place, and since he and Beverly (Christine Baranski) are no longer together, his eye is going to wander … to Sheldon’s mother (Laurie Metcalf). Don’t you think that this could be interesting? In setting up this situation, executive producer Steven Molaro had the following message to pass along to Entertainment Weekly:

“An unexpected attraction springs up between Sheldon’s father and Leonard’s mother … There’s a shared dislike of Beverly and a genuine fondness of each other. Leonard’s father, it turns out, is a pretty charming guy.”

While we are not entirely sure that there will be a huge cliffhanger or anything of the sort in this episode, there will at least be entertainment. At this point in the show’s run, that is precisely all we want to see. It’s hard to introduce new character details or surprises when you are almost a full decade into a show. (We’ll also have a review for this episode up not long after it airs, so be on the lookout for that plus talk on next season.)
