Jon Huertas reportedly signs deal for ‘Castle’ season 9, provided show sticks around

You can now pencil in one more addition to “Castle” season 9, and it’s someone we’ve really enjoyed on the show over the years: Jon Huertas.

According to TVLine, the man behind Javier Esposito is on board for what could be an abbreviated final season of the show on ABC, provided it happens in the first place. Huertas joins Nathan Fillion and Seamus Dever, who are both also on board. Stana Katic and Tamala Jones were cut from the series by the network in a supposed cost-cutting move, while Molly C. Quinn, Susan Sullivan, and Toks Olagundoye are all expected to return.

When the news first broke that Katic and Jones were leaving the show, Huertas said on Twitter that he hoped fans could “see it fit to support [an] unknown incarnation” of the show that they have been watching for many years. He also mentioned the 400 jobs that that the show employs among its cast and crew.

The season finale of the show is going to air on ABC next week, and for now, it’s being billed as such. If we were to bet we’d say that this will likely not be the end of the series, if for no other reason than that the network has went through all of this effort, and it’d be incredibly masochistic of them to get so many angry at them to just end the show anyway. We’ll see what happens, and ultimately we’ll continue to see the story through as a writer and someone who respect the people who work on it. Of course, at the same time it’s still hard to imagine how it would even work without Kate Beckett.
