‘Elementary’ season 4 finale reaction: Will Natalie Dormer, John Noble return for season 5?
On Sunday night’s “Elementary” finale, we had the chance to witness the conclusion to an epic storyline that brought to mind the name Moriarty, even if she did not physically appear herself. Instead, we had Vikner and the organization, and a key case that eventually led to Morland Holmes heading overseas in order to take on the reigns in London. He’ll work to take that group down, but in the process, it means that we could be seeing a lot less of him moving forward.
Specifically, executive producer Rob Doherty confirms to TVLine that John Noble will not be returning as a series regular for season 5, and added the following as a means of further explanation:
“This was always the plan that we would have John aboard for Season 4 … We wanted Morland — and, by extension, John — to help us define Season 4, and he absolutely did that. I feel like we told the one long story we wanted to, but we [also] got to tell a lot of smaller stories about Sherlock and his father, and then Morland trying to develop a relationship with Joan. We feel like we did everything we set out to do.”
Doherty added that they would love to use Noble in some capacity moving forward. As for Natalie Dormer, the philosophy here is largely the same as it has always been, with there likely being an interest in bringing her back if she is available. That’s always been the issue here, since she has “Game of Thrones” and feature films constantly on her schedule. We almost wonder if at some point they’ll just have her undergo facial reconstruction surgery just to be able to use her more, given how few and far between her appearances truly are.
