‘Poldark’ season 2: Aidan Turner talks dealing with self-doubt

Poldark -

We really wish that we were here, ready and able to talk about the upcoming second season of “Poldark” on BBC One. Alas, it’s still so far away! With the show not premiering until later this year, we’re left to speculate as to what happens to Ross, Demelza, and many other characters … or at least that’s the case to us as someone who did not watch the original series.

What we do have for you today is a surprising bit of news about how the series’ beloved star in Aidan Turner did at one point worry about whether or not his portrayal of the title character would live up to expectations. (Luckily, we think that it has and then some.) Take a look at what the actor had to say in an interview with the Express:

“I remember the first day so well. I was horse riding in the very first scene and thinking, ‘Jesus, if I blow this, it could all be over – I could be off! … It’s quite flattering really, thinking, ‘They [the producers] believe in me and trust I can do it!’ But there’s a little bit in the back of your head worrying, ‘I hope I don’t let people down…’ But in this game you have to get over that very quickly.”

Will he meet expectations once more in season 2? We believe so, and there’s one other thing that we feel is likely going to come out of this lengthy wait until the start of season 2: More and more viewers are going to start to become attached to the series by that time. It’s already a super-hit in Britain, but we envision here in America the series will surge in popularity, potentially in a way relatively similar to “Downton Abbey.” Maybe we’re being overly optimistic, but we know the way fans speak eagerly about this show and what is next.
