‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 7, episode 21 review: The table is set for big finale

Salvatore -

Tonight, “The Vampire Diaries” decided to rev up the story leading to the big finale with an episode that had quite a few different revelations in it, starting with something that we really enjoying seeing: A heartfelt speech between Damon and Bonnie, one that ironically came at around the time that she was trying to kill him. Her target upon awakening (which you can really blame Rayna for in the first place) was Damon rather than Caroline, and were it not for Matt, he wouldn’t be around for the finale at all.

We’ve heard that Damon may make an “ultimate sacrifice” in the finale, and we’re starting to understand how that comes about. He’s a guy desperate for some sort of repentance for some of his actions, and he definitely knows at this point what it means to go to hell and back.

As for the night’s other big storyline, a conversation between Caroline and Stefan finally occurred where the two had a shot to at least start to discuss some of their feelings. It did not go altogether well for the two of them. We don’t think that Caroline necessarily closed the door on them completely, but at the same exact time we don’t consider this to be much of a ringing endorsement of her relationship with Alaric.

With relationships up in the air and with the Armory set to take center stage for the finale, we’re excited for what comes ahead! Granted, we’re also a little nervous that at least one of our characters could be in jeopardy.

Also, what can we say about that beheading scene? Seriously! Episode Grade: B.
