‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 7, episode 22 (finale) spoilers: Ian Somerhalder’s Damon and a sacrifice

tvd -Season 7 has been a transformative year on “The Vampire Diaries.” The show has proven that it can survive without Nina Dobrev, and that it can put its characters through everything from alternate dimensions, heartbreak, and even childbirth, and they will still find a way to survive on the other side.

This is going to bring us to the big finale airing in one week’s time entitled “Gods & Monsters,” where we learn a thing or two about what Damon, Stefan, or even Caroline’s daughters are going to have to do in order to change the present course of events. Just take a look at the synopsis below for the first real insight:

“Despite their best efforts to help Bonnie (Kat Graham) through the harrowing predicament she now faces, Damon (Ian Somerhalder), Enzo (Michael Malarkey) and Caroline (Candice King) realize their options are running out and drastic measures need to be taken. With their only chance of saving their friend lying inside the Armory, Stefan (Paul Wesley) breaks the news to Caroline that they may need help from an unlikely source – her and Alaric’s twin daughters. Elsewhere, Enzo (Michael Malarkey) keeps Bonnie preoccupied by bringing her back to their cabin but when his plan takes an unexpected turn, it’ll be up to Damon to make the ultimate sacrifice to save his closest friends.”

Given that this is a show that often embraces tragedy, we certainly expect some of that coming up before season 8. Also, we have a feeling that there’s going to be some sort of a cliffhanger. It was probably decided well before the renewal was announced that there was probably going to be one more year of the show.
