‘Castle’ season 9 renewal decision reportedly pushed back … for now
Want to know whether or not “Castle” has been renewed for a ninth season? We’re right there with you, but apparently all of us are going to have to wait for a little while longer.
According to Deadline, ABC seemingly has pushed back when they want to make their decision on when to renew the show past today, which is somewhat surprising given that the original indication was that this was when they needed to know for the sake of getting the May 16 finale together. Clearly, it’s now looking more like a last-minute thing, and producers are going to need to know the show’s future before they determine which one of the multiple endings that they shot to put at the end of the episode.
So what is the hangup from the network point of view? It could be a few different things, whether it be finalizing contracts with some of the returning talent, or them simply trying to determine whether or not they want to have the show on the air again. Or, maybe it’s a debate over episode count.
Why go so far as to announce Stana Katic’s exit from the show, only to then not renew it? If that is what happens, we will certainly be surprised as to why the network went through all of this aggravation in the first place. We refuse to believe that they were oblivious to how negative the reaction would be to her being jettisoned from the cast, especially in the way in which it happened. They had to know there would be protests and outrage.
In the end, we’ll just have to wait and see what happens, but we’ll be providing coverage of the final two episodes this season either way.

Either bring back Beckett, or don’t bother bringing Castle back at all. The only way that I would EVER watch anything Castle related without Castle and Beckett together is if they were both dead and Alexis was working to avenge them. Otherwise just end it before you taint the whole series. As is, I consider season 7 the series final and am hoping that with enough time I can forget that season 8 ever existed.

I suppose ABC wouldn’t go to all this trouble, if they wanted to cancel the show anyway. They probably have some plan for the show without Beckett. And seem to think that Fillion and the rest of the cast can carry the show. Let the ratings show it.

If abc was really confident Nathan could carry a show they should have just given him a new pilot and not ruin the character of Beckett and fire the best actress on television. Stana made the show called Castle a success.

ABC dropped the dime on themselves with the announcement that Stana would not be offered a contract for season 9. They did it to see the reaction. They have. Season 9 without Beckett looks like a very bad idea for a number of serious reasons. Now, they have to decide what to do about it.

ABC own polling told them that 95% of the fans are pissed off about the firing of Beckett and 88%-85% will not watch a Beckett less Castle. I agree with Jan that Stana is the best actress they have, the two of them together made Castle what it is. The wheels started really falling off the wagon in episode 2 of season 8, driving a large part of the fans away. They never came back. Leaving a complete Beckett less Castle losing 88% more , your own polling tells you that. Or they are worried that uproar will run over into other tv shows you have. This year ABC, Disney Corp threaten to pull out of the state of Georgia over an human rights issue, now they tell the fans they have a budget problem with the Show Castle and can not pay the best actress what she worth, but renewing everyone else contracts even Toks, and she not a fans favorite. And we are not even getting into the bullying problem. All of this is what we are told as fans, living on the mushroom farm, (in the dark). After all the fans only pay for the shows. So ABC you really need to do the right thing here, bring Stana back, give the show a finale 13 episodes, with both Rick and Kate working together like the first 7 seasons. Remember how good the rating were. Season 8 just moved too far off what the story line was about.

Just make a decision and let the show go with some dignity. Fans are really tired of this situation.
