Ryan Murphy re-teams with ‘American Horror Story’s’ Jessica Lange for new FX series ‘Feud’
Clearly, Ryan Murphy and FX cannot get enough of the anthology story. He already has both “American Horror Story” and “American Crime Story” on the network, and now, he’s getting set to unleash another epic anthology in “Feud.” The title’s pretty self-explanatory, with each season focusing on some sort of battle between well-known people or events. For the first season, he’s taking on the subject of Bette Davis versus Joan Crawford. Susan Sarandon is going to be playing the part of Davis, while Jessica Lange is returning to FX after many years on “Horror Story” to play the part of Crawford. Stanley Tucci and Alfred Molina are also in the cast.
In a statement announcing the series, FX Networks CEO John Landgraf had the following message to pass along:
“Ryan keeps re-inventing TV … Nip/Tuck brilliantly extended the boundaries of ad supported television. Glee re-imagined the television musical. American Horror Story pioneered the modern anthological series, which has rapidly transformed the television landscape and been widely copied. The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story was recognized by many as the best and most talked about new show this year. And all of those shows have been award-winning ratings hits. Feud adds a third and equally ambitious franchise to Ryan’s unprecedented slate of FX anthological limited series and marks our third such collaboration with studio partner 20th Century Fox Television/Fox 21. The series will offer a seductive, insightful look at what lies behind legendary personality conflicts.”
We do think ther’es a good reason established now for FX to keep working with Ryan: He makes great shows. Sure, “American Horror Story” may have been pretty disappointing with “Hotel,” but it still delivers some of the network’s strongest ratings and we have to assume this accounts for something.
