‘Agents of SHIELD’ season 3 spoilers: First look at finale, ‘who will die?’ resolution

“Ascension” is the title for the upcoming season 3 finale of Marvel’s “Agents of SHIELD” airing on May 17, and one thing is already rather clear about this story: This could blow up the entire show as we know it. It’s running over the course of two hours, and early indications definitely suggest that we’re going to get some answers regarding just who is the “fallen agent” who has been mentioned early and often in some of the promotional material for the show so far.

“It’s a showdown a season in the making as S.H.I.E.L.D. takes on Hive, and when his master plan is finally revealed, the team must spring into action. Who will live, and who will die?”

One of the questions that we do still have at the moment is a rather fundamental one: Is there any way at all for Hive to survive this? Think about that at the moment: This is a character who has done some truly terrible things so far, and Brett Dalton has had nine lives in his portrayal of this character so far. We’ve seen him basically play three different people since the onset of the show, but sooner or later, you do have to wonder if there is a point where there is no turning back. We don’t know how you bring him back if Hive dies … but then again, we’ve been surprised before. We definitely did not expect to see some of what we have so far.
