‘Person of Interest’ season 5 spoilers: Exec on series finale, possible future elsewhere

On Tuesday night, “Person of Interest” is finally returning to CBS for what seems to be the final season. This is at least what has been announced by the network, and the show’s producers realized early on with their shorter episode order that this would probably be the end. Therefore, they were able to plan accordingly.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, though, executive producer Greg Plageman made it clear that this season is not necessarily the end of the show. There may not be any plans at present to continue the series, but the series finale coming up later this summer does leave it open that there could be some more story to tell if the right suitor comes along:

“We’re not in any discussions right now about that, but let’s just put it this way: Never say never. The version of this show that we have has more story that we could tell, but I think that by the end of this season, viewers will be very satisfied… This is the concentrated version [of the show] now, and there are episodes twice a week. I think our fans may need to put on their seat belts.”

Ultimately, we think interest in a potential season 6 will be dependent on what sort of ratings the show is able to put up in its final run on CBS. We know that this is a busy time with it being May sweeps, but if we were you, we’d watch the show live and then see what happens from there. It’s not like there is a ton of competition ready and waiting to bury this show other than maybe “Chicago Fire” over on NBC.
