Ratings: ‘The Originals’ up for big Leah Pipes episode; ‘Blue Bloods,’ ‘The Amazing Race’ fall

Blue Bloods season 6Did The CW do a particularly effective job of promoting this past episode of “The Originals,” given precisely what we saw unfold over the course of the hour? Based on the evidence that we’re seeing now based on the ratings, the answer to that has to be “yes.”

The good news – The latest episode of the series drew a 0.4 rating in the 18-49 demographic, which is a pretty significant rise versus the most-recent episode. While we’re sure that this is not entirely due to the death of Cami (Leah Pipes), the promotion hyping up some big events in this hour surely helped its cause! It’s not a stellar rating for Friday night still, but it justifies further the CW decision to keep it around.

Also, “Shark Tank” recovered to a 1.4 and won the night by a steady margin. Also, “Hell’s Kitchen” ended up rising to a 1.0, not that we really do that much coverage of this particular show.

The bad news – It was only really bad for a couple of shows on CBS last night. “The Amazing Race” fell to a 0.9, while “Blue Bloods” dropped to a 1.2. We don’t necessarily think that it is all that miserable for either one of these shows at present, though, given that they are both returning for additional seasons.

For those wondering, “The Vampire Diaries” and “Grimm” were reasonably steady at a 0.4 and a 0.9, respectively. There’s not really anything too good or bad to say about this right now, but both shows are also coming back.
