‘The 100’ season 3, episode 14 review: Monty finds his inner strength and becomes a hero
On the last episode of “The 100” we saw Clarke offer Luna the flame and the position of commander, but she refused and now it looks like Clarke, Octavia, Jasper and Bellamy are stuck on a barge in the middle of the ocean. Also we saw Kane take the tech and join the City of Light, which was a pretty heartbreaking moment for us since he was the person we were hoping would be able to save them all.
City of Light: Indra is able to free everyone in the prison who refused to take the tech, and Murphy tells her that the pack Jaha carries is the key to the City of Light and that if they can destroy that then they can take back control. A.L.I.E. asks Emori to stop Murphy before he gets to the back pack, but is he going to be under her spell anymore now that he knows she’s taken the tech pill? When they get to the back pack, John goes to destroy it, but Emori tells him it is nuclear and will destroy the entire city. Emori gets to Murphy and he’s not able to destroy it, but Pike smashes it to pieces… unfortunately it’s too late and A.L.I.E. has enough time to migrate to the escape pod making A.L.I.E. pretty much invulnerable.
Luna: She has a protected community on the barge and reminds Octavia that anyone that comes to the barge is done with fighting and is looking for peace. Clarke considers putting the commander tech into Luna’s head without asking and Bellamy backs Clarke’s decision. Clarke has another talk with Luna saying that Lexa was working towards a world of peace among the clans and that Luna can be the one to do complete this and when she denies it again, Clarke tries to implant it in her against her will, but Luna takes her down in one swift move and it’s over. A.L.I.E. has some of her people on the barge and she locks Octavia, Clarke and Bellamy up in a cargo crate and takes the flame. A.L.I.E. tries to force Luna to take the regular tech chip before taking the flame in order for A.L.I.E. to better control her. After an attack on Luna’s people from A.L.I.E., Luna tells Clarke that she is going to take the flame and become the commander, but instead she sends Octavia, Bellamy, Jasper and Clarke away from the barge with the flame.
Raven: While Monty is off making out, Raven is making progress on A.L.I.E.’s code and is debating not waiting for Clarke to get Luna to take the commander’s tech before initiating the kill code on A.L.I.E. She finds something that A.L.I.E. is hiding (a vulnerability?), but she can’t see it unless she uses Becca’s code to get in and see. As soon as Monty falls asleep, Raven accesses A.L.I.E.’s code and she can’t log Raven out and Raven is going straight for the backpack to shut it down. When Monty wakes up, his mother is sent by A.L.I.E. to stop Raven, but Monty deletes his mother’s code so that they can move forward and stop A.L.I.E. – a heart breaking moment but we loved seeing how strong Monty is. Raven finds a kill switch to destroy A.L.I.E., but she removes herself from the mainframe so Raven can’t access it and Monty is devastated.
So our group is in serious trouble now without Luna’s help and it looks like our group is pretty lost. This show never stops throwing up roadblocks for our survivors, but they always find a way to make things happen. We have no idea what their next plan of attack will be, but we have faith in Clarke as a leader and know that she will figure something out as she always does. Episode grade: B+
