’24: Legacy’ reboot with Corey Hawkins officially ordered to series
There’s no longer any need for uncertainty when it comes to Fox’s attempt to reboot the “24” franchise. It’s now officially happening.
Today, the network confirmed that “24: Legacy,” which stars Corey Hawkins as a man who will basically become the new Jack Bauer, will have a 12-episode order similar to “24: Live Another Day,” the last version of the franchise to feature Kiefer Sutherland. (Sutherland will be involved in the new project behind the scenes, but is not slated to appear on the show for the time being.)
Will America respond to a new version of “24”? That remains to be seen, but with a cast that includes Miranda Otto (“Homeland”) and Teddy Sears (“The Flash,” “Masters of Sex”), there is a heck of a lot to be excited about.
Meanwhile, Fox is also going to be greenlighting the new music-oriented series “Star” from Lee Daniels (“Empire”) for 13 episodes of its own. This was never really a pilot we were overly concerned about, largely because Daniels has the golden touch right now and “Empire” is making millions for Fox on an almost-weekly basis.
These are some of the first big series orders for the fall, and we expect many more to be coming for Fox. You have to remember here that with “American Idol” ending, the network in particular is going to have a whole lot of room to fill up on the schedule. That may be in part why “Scream Queens” was renewed and also why a low-rated show like “Sleepy Hollow” still has a chance to come back even without one of its leads in Nicole Beharie.
